In accountancy, depreciation refers to two aspects of the same concept: Businesses depreciate long-term assets for both tax and accounting purposes. The former affects the balance sheet of a business or entity, and the latter affects the net income that they report. Generally the cost is allocated, as depreciation expense, among the periods in which the asset is expected to be used. This expense is recognized by businesses for financial reporting and tax purposes. Methods of computing depreciation, and the periods over which assets are depreciated, may vary between asset types within the same business and may vary for tax purposes. These may be specified by law or accounting standards, which may vary by country. There are several standard methods of computing depreciation expense, including fixed percentage, straight line, and declining balance methods. Depreciation expense generally begins when the asset is placed in service.

The lease would give the NHL team control over the arena’s day-to-day operations. The Centennial Authority took the action about an hour before Raleigh officials formally announced that the Whalers were relocating to Raleigh. The arena would open in , with construction set to begin in about three weeks. The Centennial Authority approved the proposed lease after a closed-door meeting. Murphy said he felt the building should be controlled entirely by the Centennial Authority.
The agreement permits the Whalers to hire concessionaires, with the authority’s approval, and to control the arena’s day-to-day operations. However, North Carolina State University, which would share the venue with the Hurricanes, would have priority in selecting playing dates at the arena under the proposed lease. From the Cass County Star Gazette. Reddy Kilowatt is anything but your average company spokesman. After all, this fellow has lightning bolts for a body, a light bulb for a nose and electrical outlets in the place of ears.
Tweet Yesterday our electric bill arrived in the mail, and the energy use figures were ridiculous. For some unknown reason they decided to bill us for more energy than we had used either last month or the same month last year. The electric company representative told me not to worry that we had been overcharged… and that when the meter reader comes and actually reads the meter next month, all of the figures will be sorted out. But it was something else that happened during this call that disturbed me.
When I first told the representative that I had a question about my bill, she told me that before she could talk to me, I needed to give her my Social Security number and my date of birth. This owl kept a close watch on our bird feeder until we scared him away I continued to refuse to give any one of those three pieces of information, and the representative said she was breaking the rule to talk to me at all, even though my question had been very general and did not involve any specific information about our account.

The lift station was pretty much destroyed and Xcel Energy had to disconnect power to it. While this lift station serves a minimal number of homes on Jacob Street, if it isn’t operating, those homes it serves are susceptible to having sewage back up into their basements. To prevent that from happening and while the city awaits the arrival and installation of a new lift station control panel, it is necessary to power what’s left of the old control panel for the lift station with one of the city’s standby emergency generators.
While the existing control panel sustained major damage, it still can be used in conjunction with the standby generator. It just can’t be connected to commercial power like it was prior to the accident.

Edit Answer for another 7 minutes This one depends an AWFUL lot on your local building code requirements, and on your yard surface conditions. Some jurisdictions allow flexible plastic tubing runs as shallow as 12 inches, others require as much 48 inches deep. Also, some require flexible plastic gas line be laid in PVC conduit or even steel casing if within a certain distance of the house and where passing under any “hard” surface like sidewalk or driveway.
Some allow flexible tubing, some require black iron pipe, etc. The reason for these requirements is partly to provide more protection against puncture from something driving over it, and partly to provide an open passage for any leaking gas so a gas pocket can not form near the house or under an impermeable surface. There are also code restrictions on how close natural gas lines can come from other utility lines – both horizontally and vertically, so you need to locate other utilities to ensure proper clearance for your code area.
Usually not extreme – typically a foot vertically and feet horizontally from electric, for instance, which is the most extreme requirement. Can be an issue if you are crossing a buried power feed to the house, or have yard lighting or a pool or such. Note in most areas a specific class of sand or gravel backfill is needed for the bottom inches of the trench excapsulating the pipe also – not just any excavated material.
